"Helping you heal your emotional, spiritual, mental and physical bodies"
What is Reiki?
Reiki means universal life force energy in Japanese, it is an ancient Japanese method of healing which uses energy to balance the body and mind. As a Reiki Master Practitioner, I act as a channel for the universal energy, which flows thought the individual allowing their own energy system to re-balance. By placing my hands gently and non-intrusively on certain positions on your body.
The Reiki energy channels through you and in doing so, helps promote self healing of your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising the person. Reiki is believed to improve just about any aspect of life, It works on different levels from physical health and emotional well-being to stress reduction and mental clarity. Reiki techniques are used to heal the body, mind and the spirit. It is a powerful and effective modality in both clearing and rebalancing the energy centres (chakras) of the body.
Reiki is often used as a complementary therapy in a number of hospitals today. It enhances the health care the patient receives both in the hospital and from outpatient health care providers. Reiki has not only helped patients with physical ailments but also helped those with minor psychological problems as well.
Reiki and Chakras
Chakras are energy centres within the body that help to regulate all its processes, from organ function to the immune system and emotions. Seven chakras are positioned throughout your body, from the base of your spine to the crown of your head. Each chakra has its own vibrational frequency, colour, and governs specific functions that help keeps you psychologically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually balanced.
1. The root (I am) – represents your foundation and helps you stay grounded
2. The sacral (I feel) – enables your ability to connect with and accept others
3. The solar plexus (I do/I can)– allows you to stay in control of your life
4. The heart (I love) – of course is the area from which you love and achieve joy
5. Throat (I speak) – where your ability to communicate comes from
6. Third eye/ brow (I see)– lets you focus and see the big picture
7. Crown (I understand) – represents the highest level: full spirituality
Reiki is an excellent healing technique for the chakras that are imbalanced, dysfunctional or even blocked due to problems of the body, mind and spirit. Keeping your chakras balanced and functioning will prevent problems and illnesses. Reiki can help remove all negative energies and blockages that stand in the way of your normal energy flow like a rock in a stream. After these negative forms of energies are removed, your stream of energy is recovered and flows smoothly through your body. Reiki is a natural and safe method of healing that can be used by anyone.
Healing with Crystals
Crystals and gems have been used throughout history for their healing qualities and beauty. Each crystal has different energy balancing and vibrational qualities. These can interact with the human energy body to promote healing, which is enhanced even more by filling them with Reiki.
Using Reiki with crystals enhances the healing work. I place crystals on or around your body including the chakra centres. This is a wholly intuitive process; however I focus on balancing the chakras whilst drawing in positive energy and drawing out negative energy. For example, if you are dealing with depression, you will want to drain negative feelings of worthlessness, but you need to replace those with joy, love and self worth.
The Benefits of Reiki
Promotes a calm peaceful sense of wellbeing
Reiki is a wonderful way to de-stress, reduce anxiety and to promote relaxation, this in turn helps to promote harmony and balance. It is an effective, non-invasive energy healing modality that enhances the body’s natural healing ability whilst energising and promoting overall wellness.
Creates deep relaxation
Reiki provides a space where you can be more aware of what is going on inside your body and mind. It balances the mind and emotions. Regular Reiki treatments can bring about a calmer and more peaceful state of being, in which a person is better able to cope with everyday stress.
Clears energy blocks and promotes natural balance between mind, body and spirit
Regular Reiki treatments can bring about a calmer and more peaceful state of being, in which a person is better able to cope with everyday challenges. This mental balance also enhances learning, memory and mental clarity.
Assists the body in cleansing itself from toxins and supports the immune system
We spend so much time in a stress-reactive fight/flight phase that it becomes our ‘norm’ and our bodies literally forget how to return to balance.
Reiki reminds our bodies how to shift into a parasympathetic nervous system (rest / digest) self-healing mode. Rest/digest does not mean you have to stop being active and productive or ‘do nothing’. It allows you to sleep better and digest better which is important to maintaining health and vitality. The more you are in this space, the more you can be active, happy and productive.
Grounded & centred
Reiki can support you in staying centred in the present moment rather than getting caught up in regrets about the past or anxieties about the future. It can strengthen your ability to accept and work with the way events are unfolding even when they don’t follow your desires or timetable. You begin to react to situations, people and yourself in a supportive way rather than acting out of habit. Promoting the qualities of loving, caring, sharing, trusting and goodwill.
Aids better sleep
The number one outcome of receiving a Reiki session is relaxation. When we are relaxed, we sleep better, our bodies heal better, we think more clearly, and we relate to each other more genuinely. Often clients will experience deep relaxation during their Reiki session and some have commented that they have encountered a deep meditative state.
Reiki helps bring about inner peace and harmony. It can be a valuable tool in the quest for spiritual growth.
Create greater harmony
Reiki can also help strengthen and heal personal relationships. Because Reiki enhances your capability to love, it can open you up to the people around you and help your relationships grow. By improving your capacity for empathy, Reiki allows you to connect with people on a deeper level.
Reiki offers relief during emotional distress and sorrow. Reiki helps in the grieving process. It cleans and clears the emotions, preventing them from being so draining and offers perspective. It can also help channel emotional energy into creativity.
Who Would Benefit from Reiki
The simple answer is: YOU, YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND WORK COLLEAGUES!
Taking time to relax is so important in our day-to-day lives. The stress and anxiety we feel due to work or responsibilities at home can be overwhelming. Dedicating time to take care of yourself can help to reduce these negative feelings. You do not have to be ill or stressed to benefit from Reiki. It is lovely just to relax and be nurtured for a while. Just come along to pamper yourself, enjoy the relaxation and experience the benefits of a reiki treatment!
What Happens During Your Treatment?
During the treatment I hold my hands over or on the head, neck, shoulders, abdomen, chakra centres and other parts of the body, usually for about five minutes in each area. I use 12 hand positions. This allows Reiki to flow into every chakra, and therefore around the whole physical and energy body. Intuitively I may be drawn to other areas and I will add them during your treatment.
Typically the treatment takes about 60-90 minutes this allows for you to turn over so that your back can be treated. If there is an injury or surgical scar in these areas. I may hold my hands just off the body.
What Clients Have Experienced
"After the treatment I felt refreshed and seem to be thinking more clearly." "I fell into a deep sleep." "I felt the heat from Debbie’s hands which was particularly comforting and reassuring!" "I felt totally relaxed and was totally in the moment." “I saw colours particularly purple whilst my eyes were closed during the treatment.” "My headache disappeared." “ I felt a strong tingling in my hand and fingers and back of calves” “I felt at one point I was floating off the therapy couch.” These are some of things people typically say after a Reiki session.
The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. Clients have experience heat in my hands. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body.
People often comment how comforting they find the experience of Reiki to be. An interesting study reported that recipients frequently feel that they are hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, simultaneously aware of their surroundings and deeply indrawn. Some people fall into a deep meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation.
Reiki is cumulative and even people who do not notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue. Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on: perhaps stronger digestion, a sense of being more centred and poised and less reactive, and sleeping more deeply at night.
"Reiki has not been found to have any adverse effects.
Because there is nothing about a Reiki treatment that can interfere with conventional medical care, Reiki has no known contraindications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention.
The touch of Reiki is very light and non-invasive and does not override the action of medical interventions, but rather supports you while you go through them.
Because the activation of Reiki pulsations in the practitioner's hands adjusts to the changing need of the recipient, and stops when appropriate, you cannot get too much Reiki, no matter how long the practitioner's hands are in place.
Remember that it is up to you to be responsible for your own medical care and seek appropriate help. Reiki does not replace normal medical consultation or treatment, it helps to enhance the process of harmony of the mind, body, emotions and spirit and its means of supporting and complementing medical treatment.
I do not diagnose or recommend any medical interventions. If you are concerned about your health you should consult a qualified medical practitioner.
Healing Reactions of Reiki
Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a ‘healing reaction’. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel tired. The advice is to listen to your body, drink plenty of water, eat lighter meals and rest when you need to. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign.
Aftercare information is always given after your treatment.
Combining Reiki and Reflexology
Reiki and Reflexology are both wonderful treatments on their own and in combination, this adds to the benefit of both treatments. When these two treatments are combined in one session, it can be very beneficial. Reflexology is used to target known areas of physical discomfort and the Reiki takes the treatment deeper.
Reflexology allows the energy trapped in those reflexology points to release, once that energy is released, the body can then begin to heal itself. Reiki healing can take you into a deeply relaxed state, in this state our body feels separate from our mind. I can then work to balance the energies of mind, body and spirit as the ‘mind chatter’ of the conscious mind is asleep, this is similar to what happens in meditation. We return to waking consciousness feeling calm, relaxed and refreshed, changes in physical symptoms can also be apparent over a period of days and or sometimes longer.
The combined treatment starts with reflexology treatment and is completed with a reiki treatment. When reflexology and Reiki are deliberately combined, the relaxation is often much deeper and may even create a quicker response time.
Please note this combined treatment my not be suitable for all clients (see reflexology page for contraindications).
In order to develop wellness, there needs to be a deliberate effort to create a balance between physical, social, intellectual and spiritual health. Regular combined reflexology and Reiki sessions can help create this harmony by lowering our stress levels and bringing you back into balance.
On your first visit a full confidential consultation will take place with me. (All therapists should adhere to the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998).
‘Reiki Balances the Chakras’
A complete Reiki session is offered to you while you are fully clothed whilst lying on a therapy couch with your eyes closed. There is no pressure, manipulation or massage.
The Crown chakra is our connection to the Universe, our spirituality, and our trust in life. It raises our desire to explore aspects of mystical union with the Divine and connectedness with life.
When this chakra is imbalanced, this manifests physically as depression, or as chronic exhaustion that is not linked to physical disorders.
Emotionally, we are unable to let go of anxiety and fear and there is a lack of trust in life.
When Reiki is performed, this chakra becomes unblocked and allows us to be more in touch with our spiritual guidance, and have more trust in life.
When we are stressed, tense and/or anxious, our lungs cannot easily expand, resulting in us shallow breathing or even holding our breath. When we relax and release the tension in our solar plexus and diaphragm, we can breathe freely and easily again, as our lungs can expand to their full capacity.
When looking at our chakras, the solar plexus, the third chakra, represents our power centre. It stands for the way we see ourselves
Working Crystals and Reiki
Crystals are a wonderful vibrational healing tool to work with during your Reiki treatment. Crystals posses some of the highest vibrational frequencies on earth, and simple being around crystals and setting your intention to attune to their vibration can have a profound effect on your health and wellbeing. Each crystal has its own unique energetic properties, and can therefore be used strategically to enhance sluggishness or subdue overactivity in the chakras.
Third Eye Chakra
The Third Eye chakra represents the brain, nervous system, endocrine system and pineal glands as well as the eyes and face. It is where our intuition lies and where you gain perspective on the world and what you allow yourself to ‘see’ and what you ‘face up to’ or what you avoid.
When this chakra is imbalanced, this may physically manifest as brain issues, such as stroke, brain tumour/haemorrhage, neurological disturbances and seizures.
I work directly above or next to the chakras, in the aura, the Reiki is able to clear the chakra of blockages and balance the energies, helping heal and harmonise all aspect of the persons, body, mind, emotion and spirit. No chakra works independently of the other chakras, they are all part of the whole energy system.
The Throat chakra is the centre of communication and purification. Balancing this chakra can help you reconnect with your true nature and make you feel safe enough to express it. A strong and balanced Throat chakra can also help you get in touch with your desires and feelings that have been suppressed or long forgotten about.
People with an imbalance in their Throat chakra can have variety of health issues like thyroid problems, throat, dental or jaw problems as well as shoulder, arm and neck stiffness.
Emotionally, we may be afraid of silence, fearful of being judged and rejected, and imbalances in this chakra can also be connected to addiction. When Reiki is performed to help clear this chakra, we become more able to express ourselves or follow our dreams.
The Heart Chakra
The heart is associated with our emotions and linked to your ability to love unconditionally and includes giving and receiving, compassion for others and loving and acceptance of yourself.
The Heart chakra pain is often associated with having a “broken heart,” from being let down in some way by someone you love or loved. Rejection, abuse, grief, trauma and loss are emotionally painful to experience and can leave an energetic imprint in the Heart chakra.
A blocked Heart chakra hurts on an emotional level, but it can also lead to the manifestation of physical disease and illness if not addressed.
Reiki can not only help make us more compassionate, but by clearing these blockages, we might also become more open to accepting love from others.
Solar Plexus Chakra
The Solar Plexus chakra manages the autonomic nervous system, stomach, gall bladder, large intestine, liver, pancreas. Also the whole digestive system and muscular system are governed by this chakra.
Strong raw emotions are also controlled by this chakra. Thus these emotions include anger, zeal, courage, confidence and frustration. Also warm feelings such as joy, cheerfulness, and spontaneity are controlled by the Solar Plexus chakra. ‘Gut feelings’ or intuitions are also connected to this chakra.
Depression, frustration, isolation, doubt, lethargy or anger are signs of imbalance in the Solar Plexus chakra. Removing the negative energies that block the chakra goes a long way in helping it heal.
Reiki will help clear the blocked energies in this area. If something emotional or traumatic has happened, this is usually where the blocked energies will be. Once this is opened, different emotions will also be able to open.
The Sacral Chakra is associated with the emotional body, sensuality, and creativity. Too little sacral energy can make it difficult for you to feel emotion. Too much energy can make you feel as if you are swinging back and forth between emotional extremes or constantly seeking stimulation, parties, shopping etc.
When this chakra is imbalanced, there may lower back, pelvic, or hip problems, ob/gyn imbalances (including fibroids, cysts, etc.), issues around sexual potency, relationships, abundance, power and control.
This chakra is also linked to how we express our creativity, and is also related to the Throat chakra. Sexual abuse or trauma can create an energy block in this chakra. Reiki can help bring these deeply suppressed emotions to the surface (especially anger) and allow us to finally, fully heal.
Our chakras can get fatigued and depleted over time. If we are exposed to too many low vibrational frequencies (traumatic events, poor stress management, lack of self-care) our chakras can even become blocked causing all sorts of symptoms, such as physical pain or feeling of depression.
The Root chakra deals with the issues surrounding identity, survival and connection to the earth. These feelings of insecurity can trigger issues about finances, your home and career/work.
Blockage in this area often happens following traumatic events, family problems, and major life changes. There may also be lower back pain, sciatica, immune-related disorders, addictions, varicose veins, elimination system, water retention, and problems with pelvis, hips, legs, knees, calves, ankles, and feet.
When Reiki is performed at the Root chakra, we have a better sense of feeling grounded and supported and begin to find relief from many of these ailments.
